From Colorado native, Christine Trujillo: If you find yourself with a couple hours to kill, there are a couple easy excursions in close proximity to Greeley. Hwy 34 through Loveland Canyon and on into Estes Park is just 50 miles from the fairgrounds through some of the most beautiful and scenic mountains that Colorado has to offer. Be sure to plan a pitstop at the Taffy Shop on Main St. for the best saltwater taffy or caramel apple (my favorite
) you’ve ever had! If you have additional time, you can continue on south to the quaint mountain town of Nederland via the scenic Peak to Peak Hwy, from there looping through Boulder and back to I25. Conversely, Trail Ridge Road is still open if you want to continue west from Estes Park to Grand Lake. This drive will force you to retrace your steps along the same route to get back to Greeley. This is a great time of year to catch the beginning of leaves turning as well as a high likelihood of wildlife sightings! Enjoy!
